Stubby Holder

stubbyAUS.jpg

One of those typically aussie items is the stubby holder.

A Stubby cooler (also known as a Stubby holder) is an insulating sheath which is put on the outside of a stubby beer bottle or aluminium can in order to keep the beverage cool and prevent condensation forming. For this reason, they are mainly used in locations with hot and humid weather conditions.

Stubby coolers come in various sizes, shapes and colours. Stubby coolers were once almost exclusively made of polystyrene, with or without a plastic shell, but in recent times are most commonly made of neoprene. Stubby coolers can be made from leather, cloth, metal or plastic with or without an inner liner.

Stubby coolers are often seen as a type of Australiana, and they are generally quite cheap and are often seen imprinted with logos, slogans and Australian or masculine symbols. Stubby coolers are also a common promotional item. They have been available for a number of decades.

The use of Stubby coolers is not restricted to Australia and they are seen in south-east Asia and eastern Europe with increasing regularity. They are also used in parts of the United States of America, particularly the southern states, where they are known as a Koozie or Coozie.

Although the holder fits many type of bottles, the bottle type stubby doesnt get used that often, i've actually only seen one beer brand using the original Stubby shape bottle, and that is Victoria Bitter or better known as VB.

I remember taking some stubby holders home to my family in Holland and for me picking them had more aussie meaning then for them receiving them ive noticed. I mean, yeah.. to me this was an Aussie icon, that I could transfer, and to them its a piece of foam, never to be used.... oh but except that I brought it over maybe will prevent it will go into the bin or directly into the bin :).
And now I realize that it doesnt make much sense in having them if you dont know the culture behind it.

I tell you what... there are more people in Australia using these Stubby Holders, then there are people using Boomerangs !!!

Anyways.. here u go, some Aussie lessons.

Ps read the VB Wiki i point out before, and see some slang words for VB :), then you see what creative minds play with it... lol
