Bday Me

granma.jpg

w00h00.. yeah it was my bday on the 10th.. lucky me. To bad my cgi for this blog got "broken", therefor I wasnt able to put out a post about this "easy" coming achievement that occurs every year. Thanks to my superduper host tho back online in no-time! Thanks franky, cheers mate!

Due to my blog not working and the guestbook is already overfull (on the fix-list) most people tried to congratulate me through all other media available, and that was overwelming stuff.. I mean thumbs up for facebook and hyves for showing when its your bday to all ur contacts.. w000t
Normally I would dive and hide on my bday but this one was the first being connected to those mediums and what an impact, no hiding anymore.. lol
Nice tho, being on this side of the globe and seeing all the messages and scraps etc coming in.
When I got a minute, I will message back as much as possible. I did already reply to all the sms-text messages.

Got a bit tangled up today with the next person in line who puts a typ0 in the wrong line trying to do a good thing, and p000f there it is... all my work and my customers efforts and image belong to another company.. like magic.. yeah right!. Its becoming a trend here.. and maybe later I will explain more on this matter, havent got into the right words about it.

I'm just happy my work has my name under it, and my customers are willing to help me out. Also my blog has google as a very good friend by now! All I have todo is put it in the keywords and text and there it goes...

Anyways I got myself a bday present in the form of 1 TB external storage! YAY, so now finally I can BACK THE **** UP properly!.. lol (1 TB = 1000 GB ). As my MacBookPro (MBP) has an 250 GB drive and my previous backup disk was 250. So no room for anything else.
Okokok.. besides the fact it looks very 70's, its a SEAGATE, and I used to hate Seagate!!!, but then I realised I havent tried anything from that brand since they started pounding on the price vs the quantum 6.4 gb fireball HD.. and if that doesnt say much to you, that was a loooooong time ago.

Leeching a copy of Ghost now to see if that one wants to backup all my partitions in one go, as TrueImage only wants todo the XP one and same goes for the Ghost version I had. Time Machine that comes with MacOs, is great but wants to claim the whole HD and only does the MacOSX partition. I want to wack Vista on there too so hopefully I dont have to back all parts up separately.
Anybody any suggestions.. please share!

Cheers everyone and again thanks for this warm and fuzzy bday!

NO MORE IE6 support

The Barton Mawer site runs well in all latest versions of the most used browsers. But that overhaul made me realize its not worth spending that much time adding Internet Explorer 6 hacks in order to support this in 2006 superseded browser version.

For some reason many web developers still think its good to support the browser, and yes if you loose customers and therefore sales... I agree there!!, but this is also the evil, and that’s why there are still IE6 users out there. Dunno the real percentage but I guess its still around 10-20 percent.

Ok ok.. it feels good maybe to get a hack to work and bypass dodgy application behavior.. but c'mon IE7 has been here for two years, and IE8 is on its way... besides the security issue its time to upgrade, and in this case being a informative website it wont harm that much.

And if you are not able to comply with the Microsoft Genuine Validation tool (for whateva reason lol) in order to get the IE7 update, leave me a note and I point you to hack that.. lol its waaaaaay easier :)

Mawer v2.0 no IE6

bartonmawer_v2.jpg

Ive done a major overhaul to bartonmawer.com, the template got severely reconstructed.
Besides the graphic update its, now its possible to use both side bars on demand, and Ive embedded "user1" (see the "no ie6 banner" position) and "user2" in the main section assignable through the back-end, plus the navigation bar and the sponsorbar are customizable too through the CMS.

Euro 2008 live

Watch Euro Cup 2008 live online via:
freelivevoetbal.nl

Good list of different types of programs to use and languages/channels to choose from per game.
Also choose the application to view it with. I was already using SobCast and TVU player, but there are couple more to choose from.

YesTV SobCast
stream did the NED1 broadcast for the already legendary NETHERLANDS vs ITALY game, so I could enjoy the game complete with dutch commentary (Frank Snoeks - Tom Egberts - Johan Cruijff etc) and vibe! :) what a cracker of a game!!

Parallels Desktop 3.0

Forget the previous post about setting Mac OS to read NTFS with the little plugin I talked about earlier. THE tool to run multiple operating system is besides obviously bootcamp, (comes with MacOS) is virtual machine software like PARALLELS or VMware Fusion.

parallels.jpg

Ive been working with Parallels now for a week running my XP installation done with bootcamp, and i am a very happy chap now.

Besides the easy way of grabbing and altering files on the NTFS partition, I can run now all my windows applications inside MacOS and visa versa in XP. It even has some support for OpenGL and DirectX to run a small selection of games through the Virtual machine (no LFS *Sigh*). My first revelation was working in MacOS in Photoshop and having my Winamp (i hate iTunes) streaming my fav tunes through Parallels as an application running in my "dock" (task bar). Next was the impressive switching from windowed view to full screen XP, bit like turning a cube (like switching users in MacOS).

You can run the apps in a VM window or set the apps to run coherence (as they belong to MacOS), and it has great support for USB devices, like external HD's and camera's etc.
It hasnt installed my build in webcam actually, missed that one doing skype through parallels, but that can run in MacOS self anyway.

Besides XP you can run many other operating systems like Linux distri's or Vista etc on multiple Virtual Machines.

Going to try VMware Fusion also, they say it has a lot more grunt (runs faster) then Parallels.. lets see about that.

sublime sleep

Alright, my cleanest design ever is online and kicking.. first of all the product sold in the site is truly amazing, its soft and always stays in shape. Never ever you have to fluf your pillow up before you lay down ur head.

! -- beware double dutch only at the moment...

The whole thing was coded according to my design in NL, then came back for final touch up.
It will grow in the couple months as its pretty empty at the moment, but first have to get some feel of what is going to happen with it.

Hot Apple

hotapple.jpg

The MacBook Pro (MBP) is HOT, ... no seriously its bloody hot! To the point you can't even use the keyboard without burning your fingertips.
First I thought, must be a XP problem on the MBP, but its a serious problem on both Operating systems, but yeah worse on XP.
Anyways, the way to attack this is in OSX is with smcFanControl, but under XP I haven't found a proper tool to manage the fans like in OSX.
The InputRemapper, comes with fancontrol but just doesnt do anything. So for now the only way to stay cool, is to use smcFanControl in OSX, set it to a higher fan level, reboot directly in XP without turning the power off, then the fans will stay at the RPM set in OSX. :(
It would be good if BootCamp will add this to its features when booting into XP.

Mac Os reading NTFS

MacOs X can READ and WRITE on FAT32 partitions, but FAT 32 has a limit to 4GB files, and I have a few of those. OSX is able to READ NTFS but can't default write. Ive seen a couple of solutions, but think i'm going to give this one a go:
