After saving my ass more then 10 times (all-in), and out playing around 450 people, in 5.5 hours of playing poker... I had to give in.. havent picked up a good hand after first table, playing only on the blinds to survive (pokertalk for hangin in there).. I met my end result, top 40.. no price no nothing..
Gr8 tournament tho, to bad couldnt play a decent hand when i needed to and also going down to a 60 to 40 % hand fav..
Thats poker...next season another chance!

Whoa, watta you know.. I've made it into the finals of last season of National Poker League, by making the fifth place overall on the Venue ranking in Carlingford. Not bad if I may say so as I only played half a season, so my one time 1st and 2 times second place finishes, and a couple of top ten was just enough to finish 5th overall :) ...

This Saturday are the FINALS already, we play with all other top 5's from Australia's New South Wales Venues.. I guess there would be around 400 - 500 players playing for the top price of 15.000 cash or a seat with flight and accommodation in a grand televised $1.000.000 poker tournament.

- Finals name list
- Finals Prizes

Please keep your fingers crossed this Saterday for me.. maybe you see me in Vegas or so after this tournament.. lol

To start the new season, i've already added a new pokerset to my list of winnings as the first day of season 3, I finished 1st again.. YEAH!
Now I play also sometimes in Dundas on Tuesday, as its more or less the same poker players, and not far from Carlingford.

Check my stats for season #3 here: NPL stats

Wish me goodluck!

For Those Who Like To Groove

top_image.jpg

I've been collecting the mixes from this radio show for a couple of years now, and I've seen and I know I'm not the only one with this dutch radio show as highlight in the past of house music.
Back in 1992, this radio show was THE show you had to listen, and I remember after the show was finished (10:00pm), we hopped on the train to get to one of the parties mentioned in the show like PARKZICHT Rotterdam, or MultiGroove in Amsterdam (sloterdijk) etc. A strong memory I had with the broadcast of Speedy J, and later that night or rather that morning they spun almost the same set in MultiGroove.. sooo good!
The first part of the show was full of new trax and gigs etc, but the second half was most of the time a guest DJ live mixing in the studio. The radio show only lasted one year, and rumours are that the show got booted by the broadcaster (AVRO) due to a way to smoke filled studio sessions with Robin and his guests (think Netherlands, what comes after the clogs..;).
The mixing in those days wasnt always top notch but for sure the show had some, then already famous dj's, whom are now more classified as legends in House music LIVE in the studio.. and some DJ's did some amazing stuff on those analoge and ancient decks and mixers.

jaydee.jpgI had most of the mixes on tape but as time went on those tapes didnt survive my moving and/or stupid mistakes.. :P
A couple of years ago I started searching for those mixes, as I saw the name Robin Albers aka DJ JayDee somewhere popping up, as he was the main host of the show, what triggered my memory... After a couple of flashbacks I started my search..
In my search i did find some Oldskool sites whom had some mixes because they liked a certain DJ, and many people all over the world didnt know about the radio show, but had the from tape converted mp3 of that DJ, like DJ Richie Hawtin. There was one Oldskool site at that time who was talking about the For Those Who Like To Groove mixes, and was holding some lists with dates and names etc..

dano.jpg
I think I was up to around 20 mixes collected, most of my personal hero's like DJ Per :), and DJ Dano (then not so hardcore as now), DJ Buzz Fuzz, and the incredible end of the mix from DJ Gizmo.. and many many more of my early house upbringing hero's.
One of my favorite mix was from a female DJ Mutiara, or the mix from DJ Bart from Barocci, DJ Quinten de Rosario
.. but there are many more I liked and listened over and over again back in those days.

Yesterday I did a search again as my list didnt got any longer... and what does google give me....

H00YAH YESSSS !!

A For Those Who Like To Groove website !
Whoa, the desire fire struck some more people then before.. (I couldnt imagine it wouldnt anyway..).
After browsing on the forum they referred to a site who was uploading the mixes with dates and names to rapid share, and I think with a little patience we soon have a full list with the correct mixes of this legendary show, with a kewl history of some big cornerstones of DJ-ing.

Although some mixes are not so high sound quality, because they come from tape with the old speed probs etc, it is an absolute pleasure if you like house music, and those little hiccups for me gives the mix more atmosphere of that time..

Go ahead try some.. I'm sure most mixes will even fit modern times and alse you'll find the tracks and beats new DJ's use these days as sample or foundation for current compilations.
Also this type of Oldskool aint OLD.. its timeless.. (well to me it is.. )

cypresslakessign.jpg Wow, what a present from my lovely Ally.. last weekend we went up to the Hunter Valley, known for the vinyards, and the presentations of all big Australian Wine brands.
( Link: Hunter Valley )
To top it off Ally booked a Villa at Cypress Lakes Resort, which is a 5 star resort with an amazing Championship Golf Course designed by Steve Smyers. (Link: Cypress Lakes Resort).

Overlooking the incoming of the 17th hole, a nice drive over the lake into a split 2 level fairway, in front of an elevated green.
Besides the fact that the Villa on the resort was an Amazing 2 stories 2 bedroom house, with fireplace, the resort provided shuttle service to and from on demand. Our Villa was situated overlooking the Tee of the now 12th hole (old 7th).

Overlooking the 12th, from the medal tee, the pin is situated dogleft after the ridge you see after the last fairway visual able.
I played twice that weekend, ones on saterday and the next time on monday morning.. to make this whole story more jetset, on saterday morning before I hit off, I stood on the driving range to warm up a bit, and next to me a chopper landed to pick up some guests, I mean.. how jetset is that! pff..
cypresslakesvinyard.jpg
Overlooking the 7th (Old 15th), playing over a vinyard again, long par 5 with a very big dip.
The weekend besides playing on such a fantastic course and keeping my score under the 100, was fantastic.. I mean the Hunter Valley is so nice and such a dreamy different place.... amazing. All the big Australian wine brands have theire own wine tasting facilities. Besides wine there are also some nice cheese shops, and I tasted some really nice local blue cheeses. In the "Smelly Cheese Shop", I could also pick up a piece of Frico "Cumin" Cheese.. haha.. as in very dutch PITJESKAAS! lol

This was an amazing weekend on an amazing golf course in a beautifull and again amazing place.. and I had an amazing good time.. Thank you Ally! thank you.. very very much!
