Everywhere I go I have my notebook with me, and yes I've got a big pile of MP3's on it.. but most of all I want to listen to my daily subscribed RSS feeds with PodCasts so I have radio on demand automaticly chucked on my HD for in the morning when I drive to work.
Problem is, I just don't want to pay money for a device like whatever iPod that limits you in your freedom by using iTunes or other brands like apple that have there own squeezy software. It just shits me that with alot of those MP3 players, you can't just use the MP3 player as a piece of multifunctional data drive. Sure there out there, and are very good flexible alternatives...
But like I said, if you already carry a notebook why should you.. right?! Ok ok.. its not a convenient running mp3 device, or to take around the golf course slash driving range etc. But it 'll do fine in the car, train etc.. All you have to do is change the Power Settings when you use an OS like XP, in the Control Panel. Just set the HD settings to always on, and in Advanced you can set the action to "Do nothing" for what happens when you close the lid! There you go, with massive storage and most of your MP3's.
If you have a cassette player in your car, you can buy those cassette's to blast through your speakers, or you use your external input if your have! These days with all the bluetooth handsfree sets, the cops won't really notice you are using your earplugs for music also..
Happy listening!
